Airbag light mot failure

Will a car fail the UK MOT if the airbag light is on. Can an inoperative airbag light fail the MOT? Is a SRS warning lamp MOT failure? Is an airbag lamp inoperable?

Yes it will fail, under the new regs the MOT tester will need to turn the ignition to positioncheck all the relevant lights come illuminate, then extinguish as normal.

For some cars, this will. The SRS (airbag) warning lamp is not an MOT failure.

However, if a vehicle is fitted with ABS it must have an ABS warning lamp regardless of whether one was fitted as original equipment. The DVSA states Where passenger air bags are present it is. If the light indicates a system fault then YES it will fail. This means that if you.

What about diesel heater lamps - the little. Airbag light - MOT failure ?

The MOT test changed on with new defect types, stricter rules for diesel car emissions, and some vehicles over years old becoming exempt. Buddy had an airbag light on his V50.

But realistically you’ll probably be told by your mechanic to remove the dice before the MOT takes place. So whilst driving a car with possibly faulty airbags is far from ideal, an inoperative airbag light should NOT fail the MOT (refer your MOT garage to VOSA if they think otherwise).

As long as the airbag light lights up correctly and then turns out then the mot tester is unlikely to instigate further. I know with some cars a simple resister mod can fool the car into thinking an airbag is present.

Every year or so the light comes on an despite twice having been in to main MB dealers for expensive diagnosis, they cannot find what is causing the problem nor replicate the error. The airbag light on the dash is on permanently as a result although the other airbags were not triggered. Will this cause a fail on the MOT test? When I turn the ignition on my airbag light comes on but also stays on until I turn the engine off.

Could a connection be disconnected. If you have this light on your dash you have a problem with your airbag system. The problem is trying to pinpoint which airbag is giving trouble.

New tougher MOT rules will require your car’s warning lights to be working. If they don’t, your car will fail its MOT test.

A route to more expensive MOTs? The MOT tester will refuse to test your vehicle if they think that the smoke test may damage your engine. You should tell them at the start of the MOT if you think this may happen.

Strangely though it needed an MOT last week and the light went off the day before the MOT was due. Im not certain but I think if the airbag light is illuminated then it disablesthe airbag system. No 1percent positive though. It is a recurring problem with the connectors under the seat as you will see on other posts.

My airbag light keeps coming on for a few days then goes off. The MOT inspection manual changed on There are more sections and the order of the sections has changed. With the new MOT changes, warning lights on your dashboard will become an MOT failure. Often special order parts are fitted unnecessarily and cannot be returned.

Dealing with a company that has many years of experience can save you time and money. Sounds like it ought to be, but I’m sometimes surprised by what isn’t included.

Semaphore arms may flash but don’t need to. A ‘light source’ means any bulb, LED or other means of emitting light.

The Tester will assess repairs to lamps for security, colour, light output and durability.
