A3 saloon review

Check specs, prices, performance and compare with similar cars. From a practical point of view, the ASaloon is near-identical to the last one. That means rear legroom is fine for adults, but headroom is a little tight.

Is the Audi Asaloon practical? What is a saloon A3? Just like the Sportback, the biggest difference to the ASaloon compared to its predecessor is the quality of the interior.

Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster is fitted as standar while a larger 12. Audi’s ASportback is the more practical choice, though. There’s a slick 10. Everything good about the A. On the roa the ASaloon is a good performer with a mature feel to the way it drives.

It’s quiet and refined no matter which version you pick (performance models aside), with a good choice of engines. It’s surprisingly practical, too" Offered alongside the five-door ASportback.

Of its rivals, only the BMW 3-series and Jaguar XE offer a similar.

It’s 15cm longer than the hatchback and 4cm longer, 2cm wider and 1cm taller than the old car. Thanks to big demand in places like China and the US, saloon cars were making a comeback.

Specifically there’s big demand for smaller saloons, hence vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz CLA and Audi’s booted ASaloon. Over the years, cars tend to creep up in size, and the Audi Ahas done just that.

A hatchback doesn’t necessarily have the right level of appeal for business customers, though, and with the Aand. T he ASaloon is still to be tested by independent safety body Euro NCAP, but its hatchback sister car earned the maximum five-star rating. It looks stylish, but are there any benefits to moving away from the hatchback formula? Practicality wise, the Saloon is winning the race in the Aclass.

We all like the idea of good things in sensibly sized packages. Read our review to find out more. This fourth-generation car cracks the conservative style mould in favour of a more youthful design that’s matched with a high-tech and rather classy interior.

TFSI petrol options. If you’re looking for a petrol ASaloon, your options kick off with a 1. Most ASaloon buyers though, will want a diesel, possibly the 1. CO(both NEDC figures).

Here, quattro 4WD is optional, while at the top of the diesel range lies a variant with a pokier 184PS version of this 2. TDI engine, a derivative. Jonathan Crouch takes a look.

That said Audi expects it to account for about 10% of Asales. Audi has developed the ASaloon in response to demand from markets around the world (primarily China and North America), but motorists in the UK generally don’t buy small saloons.

Car reviewed: AUDI Asaloon 1. Top speed 127mph Fuel Economy combined 70. Providing performance for the All-New Audi ASaloon is a host of refined four cylinder power units: A 1. Also, the standard suspension can be lowered by 15mm at no cost.

It does the ride no favours and in my opinion is not worth the resulting, slightly cooler look. To put it into context with its siblings, the saloon is just under six inches longer than the Afive-door Sportback but sits on virtually the same wheelbase (it’s just one millimetre longer, which won’t do an awful lot for interior space).

James Richardson investigates.
