The helicopter museum

Great museum for any helicopter fan and quite an experience for anyone visiting the area. Was impressed by the amount of exhibits to view. Volunteers doing a wonderful job.

How many helicopters are in the museum? Well layed out museam, lots of helicopters and displays to look at. They have made the best use of space to get as many helicopters on display as possible.

That said it is hard to get good photos of some of the machines, because they are so packed together. Doesn’t look much but the museum has around helicopters and gyrocopters on display. In the small building outside they were able to fly a computer simulated aircraft and could see live information on another screen of flights in and out of Bristol. There’s a small cafe and an outside play area.


Helicopter Museum preserves its collections "in perpetuity" – not just for now, but forever Conservation work on the aircraft is carried out entirely byvolunteers intheir spare time. We offer a hands-on experience of rotary flight for visitors of all ages.


Favourites include two of the Queen’s Royal Flight helicopters, the world speed record holder G-Lynx (4km per hour!), the Vietnam Veteran Huey and the Hind Russian Gun Ship. This unique collection of over helicopters and autogyros forms the world’s largest dedicated rotorcraft museum and the only one in the United Kingdom. Visitors can browse a collection of over eighty helicopters from around the world.
